I finished the top to my first patchwork quilt. It was one of my projects for the Thanksgiving Staycation week. I tried to use fabrics that were not normally seen in quilts. Originally I was going to go all camo (different kinds), but I only found the classic, what I call “Jungle Camo” and the “Desert Camo” ( I’m not really sure what the real names are), but I filled in with some cowboy, patriotic stars, animal paw prints and a bit of paisley. Here’s a picture of the top hanging from my bookshelf
Overall size so far is 54″ by 81″. It may get bigger if I add a border. Finished size of each square is 3″. Here’s a close up of a few squares:
Next steps are to make the back and wait for the wool batting to arrive.
He snapped this picture:
and tweeted about it. I’m not sure if he qualifies for the “Jet Pool” lane or not.
It’s overflowing like mad. My neighbor’s pond was 4′ down at the beginning of the storm, now it’s only 1′ away from spilling over. I expect it will fill up before the rain quits tonight.
It’s been raining pretty steadily since yesterday afternoon, getting heavier through the night. It’s 11;40 on Sunday morning with no let up in sight. Neighbor Deane, says his rain gauge shows 4 inches so far. Last year, the pond didn’t fill up until Christmas day, I think. This year, I bet it fills up by the end of this storm.
I spent July, 1999 on a motorcycle trip from Santa Barbara to Alaska. The photos are published on facebook. Apparently you can see the album even if you are not logged in. Let me know if you have trouble.
In 1982 there was one sure-fire way to find job openings in the computer field. This was the Sunday edition of the “San Jose Mercury News”, a strange sounding newspaper name to me at the time, but I subscribed to the Sunday edition for a few months my last semester in college. Skip to 2010. OlinaGirl and I read it for local news and commuting discussions called “Roadshow“. They recently wrote a surprisingly positive article on my favorite group ride, the San Jose Bike Party.
After running up to my favorite “Green Acres” hardware store to get the right mounting boths, washers and nuts the bicycle stand is installed:
The boys at A to Z chose the perfect size and length for the mounting hardware. It is the same clamp that I see used in bicycle shops all the time and recommended by my mechanic guru, friend Chris. Here is the stand carefully cradling my trusty steel Lemond road bike which is in dire need of some new shoes. They will probably be installed later today:
Of course, no workshop upgrade is complete with out the corresponding upgrade to the sticker collection. The newest ones are from park tool (delivered with the stand) and Carhartt jeans (on top of the Apple sticker).
Next steps for the workshop are the shelving, pegboard and shop vise (to be mounted on the right side of the bench).
All us kids are visiting Dad in Vegas today and yesterday. Jason came across a bunch of pictures and we’ve been scanning them like crazy.
Here’s a sample:
Maybe it’s easier to view them here:
Marc is the best electrician/wiring/alarm guy I know. I met him when he was wiring Hopecita Sierra in 2007. He came by this morning to install a new 6 foot, 24 outlet power strip above my workbench. As you can see the install is super-clean:
He wound up drilling a hole in the back of the strip, adding wiring and fishing it up behind the wall into that outlet. Very cool and a far neater job than the picture I found on a Garage forum and used as an inspiration:
Notice that I don’t have any junction boxes or exposed conduit. Nothing, just a place to plug stuff in. No toolbox is complete without a collection of stickers and I’ve been working on mine:
The next step is some shelving above the bench, a pegboard on the wall to the right, a vise and a bench-mounted bicycle stand. Those are projects for the coming week.
