This is the parking lot of my old company, ACC, in Goleta, California. The BMW F650 is loaded up and ready for my month long Alaskan adventure. I left work about noon on July 1, 1999 for a 6pm interview with Cisco Systems in San Jose, California. The following morning, I left San Jose bright and early and headed north.

This is a self portrait on Pine Mountain circa 1998. Notice the remote control in my left hand. The road was closed because of trees down across it. I had the campground on the top of this mountain to myself.
